Wacky Holidays: This Day In History

31 The trans-Alaska pipeline is completed. (1977)

http://holidayinsights.com/history/history05.htm

This is one of the largest pipeline systems in the world and the only way to get crude oil from Alaska's North Slope fields to tankers waiting in Valdez. For update, click here.

Built in the 1970s after oil was discovered at Prudhoe Bay (1968), the 48-inch diameter, 800-mile pipeline links Prudhoe Bay on the Arctic Ocean with the terminal at Valdez, the northernmost ice-free port in the Western Hemisphere. The flow from this pipeline accounts for roughly 20 percent of U.S. oil production annually.

Musical Monday: How can I say Thanks

After Missing much church because of being so sick. I was thrilled to being in meeting again yesterday.  When your so sick, your brain can't put two thoughts togeather.  You depend on the  prayers of the saints.  You miss the strength and fellowship of thesaints. You long for the prayer meetings.

When I got to meeting, it thrilled me to be in God's house with his people. To be able to join in prayer with them. Thanking the Lord for what He has done for me.  The prayers he answered.  The many healings. The guidance He has given me. How could I say thanks for all He has done.  I will spend my life and eternity praising him.

Lest We Forget The Price..Thank You For Your Sacrafice

For over 90 years, the memorial poppy has been worn to remind Americans that millions of servicemen and women sacrificed their lives to keep our nation free. American Legion Auxiliary members throughout the county will distribute these poppies during the month of May for Memorial Day, a time that our country has set aside to remember and honor these fallen military troops.
During World War I, poppies unexpectedly bloomed on the scarred battlefields of Flanders Fields. Their brilliant red, like the blood shed there, is a symbol of hope and a perpetual memorial to the courage displayed there and around the globe.
Our poppies are handmade by veterans from both the Bath and Canandaigua VA medical centers. All donations are used to assist and rehabilitate veterans. Your generous support of this program enables American Legion Auxiliary units to fund many local veterans’ programs at the Richards House, Eagle Star Home, Veterans Outreach Center, Rochester Outpatient Center, Veterans Court, Zion House and VA hospitals.
Poppies are distributed for donations. Please be generous and thank you for caring. Wear your poppy proudly!

Guest Blogger:My Granddaughter George

 Crazy Day Talk!

On Tuesdays you will find guest posts by my daughters and many other people.
Today's post is by George... Enjoy!!

Crazy Day Talk!

This is George again. Today, I will talk about all the things that interest a fifteen year-old girl....
Like, for example: I LOVE MY SHOES!!!

I also love my boxes, in which I place my clothes. It is so hard for a fifteen year-old girl to keep her room clean and even I get annoyed with it.

I also like my hair Shampoo and Conditioner, which is infused with Aloe and Waterlily.

I like driving, because every minute behind the wheel is one more minute towards getting my driver's License.

I like my glasses that help relax my eyes so that I do not get headaches.

I like drinking tea. And I am NOT a casual tea drinker. I have to have a cup of tea as soon as I wake up, it must be made just so, in a particular mug, and it CANNOT be cold. It must be as close to boiling as possible. Period.

I like listening to Violin music. But not just ANY Violin music, but specifically by Taylor Davis. She plays the most beautiful music, especially for Legend of Zelda. I will tell you right now that I am not a Legend of Zelda fan. At. All. Period.

And last but not least, I love my bed. It is so comfy and cozy, along with all my pillows and blankets. And a cup of tea to help me fall asleep. And a little bit of Taylor Davis music. And...Well, that's probably enough and's for today.

Thanks for reading and commenting. (I would say watching, commenting and subscribing, but this isn't YouTube.)

That's all, folks!!! ~Jordyn~

Wacky Holiday: a snail????

National Escargot Day

What's for dinner tonight!?
Date When Celebrated: Always on May 24
It's National Escargot Day. Let's go out and eat some snails. It's considered a delicacy by some. For many others, the thought of feasting on snails is just too yucky.
The approved way of celebrating National Escargot Day is by eating a plate of Escargots. For those who can't bring themselves and their stomaches to the table, we suggest to you give Escargot gift certificates to family and friends!

Looking Back: Been MIA

You didn't know for the last two weeks I was missing in action.  I try to schedule by blogs out.  The last two weeks I have been very sick with not just one flu but two at the same time.  Not fun at all.  The weird thing was I never spiked a fever.
This respiratory flu is rough. I felt I was gonna die, sometimes it was " Lord I am ready to go on home"  When it first started, there were a couple days I felt better but than it would knock me down immediately.....again.

Last Friday night, it got really bad, I realized over the counter meds was gonna help no more. I was gonna have to go to the walk in clinic the next morning. I had been fighting against doing that, I mean no fever, just couldn't get better.

That night John prayed for me and called others for prayer.  I woke up Saturday morning, not feeling as rough.   Didn't go to the clinic.

God is so good. He led me to website that recommended Epson salt detox bath for 40 minutes. Claimed it would work. I thought why not?  It does work!

I am so thankful for my Lord, I give him all the glory for all He has done for me.

Wacky Holidays: Pack Rat Day

Pack Rat Day

Date When Celebrated: Always on May 17
Today is Pack Rat Day. C'mon, admit it... .. you're a Pack Rat like the rest of us. If you are a Pack Rat, you're in good company. You might as well come out of hiding  behind those piles of valuable "stuff", and celebrate this fun day.
Its really easy to let things pile up. After all, each item you acquire along the road of life may have value or serve some meaningful purpose. 'Ya just never know. Making the decision to discard something of even remotely questionable value, is difficult, if not impossible to do. We understand you perfectly. Why? Because most of us are pack rats.
In keeping with the intent of Pack Rat Day, here are some Do's and Don't's:
  • Don't clean your room, basement, garage or any other area today.
  • Don't discard anything today...It may be valuable.
  • Don't even empty the trash today. You might have accidentally thrown out something useful.
  • Do keep an eye out for useful stuff being discarded by others.
  • Do go to garage and rummage sales. They can be pack rat gold mines.
  • Do look around your belongings and be thankful for what you have.
  • Do spend time thinking of uses for your things. Justification for saving is satisfying.

Happy Mothers Day

Mother's Day Mom-isms

Do you remember all those things Mom used to say? Some were words of wisdom. Some were educational.  Some were warnings. And some of them you just didn't understand until you grew up and started using them on your own kids. We fondly call them "momisms".
Well, here is our list of those favorite sayings. Join the fun. Please email us with your own. Leave your name and city to post online, or contribute one anonymously. Email a "Mom-ism" now.

If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning.
You better pray that will come out of the carpet.
Be careful what you wish for, it might come true.
If I talked to my mother like you talk to me....
Don't eat those, they will stunt your growth.
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.
If you don't eat those, you will stunt your growth.
What's meant to be, is meant to be. Mom only used this when something bad happened or when you experienced a disappointment.
Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident.
Shut your mouth and eat your supper.
When you get to be my age, you'll understand.
It doesn't matter what you accomplish, I'll always be proud of you.
I hope that when you grow up, you have kids "Just Like you"! (Also known as the "Mother's Curse")
Because I'm your mother that's why.
Go ask your Father..
...This is why we can't have nice things.
If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times.

Saturday Guest Blogger: Our Mac

 Coffee Art By Mac

I have always been a huge fan of coffee art.

When I am bored and I have nothing to do,
I just turn on one of my favorite Youtube videos and I am entertained for hours.

I have tried to make coffee art, but it just doesn't work for me.

So I am content to watch other people make it.

Well, that's my snippet  for this time!

Thankful Thursday: My Date With My Grandson,Terrific Tony

Tony and I have a standing date to visit the local Library and finish off with a cone.  This time we added dollar tree to our date.

When I first went to the library,I was so surprised from when I was growing up and than my then when my children were going. Back in the day, when you had to be as quiet as a mouse . Don't even think of talking. The librarian can hear what your thinking!

The shock I experienced was a good one.  It is so family, student friendly. I took Tony into the children's section,to find people talking out loud. Train table was the drawing card for Tony and others. There was a section for toys and a fort, also set up.  There was comfortable chairs  and tables.  And books on the book shelves.

When I went into the adult section. People are talking in normal voices and visiting with  friends and strangers too.  Whatever you need was at the library. You could research for information. There was a computer lab.  I may be returning for many dates here.  It brought back so many good memories of time spent in the library.  I would highly recommend the Josephine County Library.

We got to see our beautiful cousin Ivory and had worlds largest ice cream cone

Wacky Holidays but in this case, needful

Clean Up Your Room Day

Date When Celebrated: Always on May 10
Clean Up Your Room Day is a day parents eagerly await........... and kids dread!
If you've got kids, it is very possible that their rooms are a vast wasteland, completely filled with "good stuff". "Messy" is too kind of an adjective to describe the conditions. Its impossible to walk through the room. Every dresser and shelf (and under the bed), is packed with everything imaginable. Dust has been piling up as long as your child has been around. Comfy, cozy, and quite livable to the child, its an everyday source of frustration for the "folks".
To mom and dad's delight, and every child's chagrin, Clean Up Your Room Day arrives every May 10th. Get out the shovels. Call in an industrial sized dumpster. Its time for everyone to clean your rooms!
Note to Kids: Clean Up Your Room Day also applies to your parents. You may want to inspect to assure that mom and dad practice what they preach!

Looking Back:what Kind Of Friend Are You?

This was first written in 2005...
What kind of friend are you?
Pro 18:24 .... and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

My husband tells of a time a dog attacked him when He was a young boy, resulting in several scars on his face. He tells of how the kids at school would laugh and call him names. He had one friend, that he had grown up playing with. But as they got to a larger school, He discover that friend didn’t treat him the same way anymore. When the boy’s new friends were there, He would ignore him. When they were not there, then the boy would treat him like they were still good friends.

It brings to mind, our friendship with Jesus. Do we find our self guilty of only being his friend, when no one else is around? Proverbs reminds us that Jesus is a friend above all friends. Jesus said greater love hath no man than this, that a man lays down his life for a friend. Jesus did that for each of us. Why? He felt we worth it.

In Matt 26, we read how Peter denied Christ 3 times. He had told Jesus that he would never deny him. Things got tough for Peter and he was put in the spot of making a choice. He was depending on his own strength rather than God’s. Things can try to get between us and Jesus. We don’t plan it to happen but our eyes can get off the friend above all friends. We need to take steps to make sure our friendship with Jesus stays strong.

Spending much time in prayer will strengthen our relationship. We need the strength, we gain through prayer. Jesus takes time and waits for us to find that time to spend with him. The more we communicate with our Lord, the more He communicates with us. The more we praise and thank him, the more He blesses us.

Situations come up when there is not a lot of time to pray. We can rest assure that at the name of Jesus, He is already stepping in to help us. Once I heard someone say, they never say amen because the prayer goes on all day long. The channels to heaven are already open. You already have the ear of Jesus.
Read God’s word and memorize it. This will ground you in your relationship with Jesus. David tells us how he hid the word in his heart that he might not sin. The Bible is a very powerful weapon. It will cause our enemy of our soul to be rendered useless when we use it.

Psalms 119:105 tells us that God’s word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Just like a lamp will guide our feet down a dark path. God’s word provides encouragement. Help when we don’t know which way to go. It gives us examples of others who have had tough choices to make . It is full of victories.

Let us not be a friend that pushes Jesus aside, when our other friends come. But instead let the beauty of our relationship, cause others to seek after Him too

Thankful Thursday: The freedom to pray

In 1963, Madalyn Murray O'Hair won a lawsuit against the Baltimore School System, which voted in her favor 8-1 to ban school prayer and label it "unconstitutional". Though not all prayer was immediately banned from schools at that time, through a process of time, almost all school prayer is banned today.

I remember as a student there was a saying that went around" As longs as there is tests at school, there will be prayer " They were right. Academical, peer pressure, bullying, social relationships. As some point in my life, in fact many points of my life I have sent up a heartfelt prayer up. Not always on my knees. not always out loud. But nevertheless they were answered. Deliverance came from my Heavenly Father.

No matter what the ruling was that came from a lawsuit, I stilled prayed and God stilled answered.  People may not have heard the prayer but they could see the result.

This ruling is not much different than the ruling that Daniel in the Old Testament  faced. Did that changed Daniel's habit. No way! He continued to pray three times a day. I don't think it was quietly either. God was with him and delivered him from the jaws of lions. Rather his enemies became the lions supper. A king saw God's power and changed how things were done.

Never fear, Trust God and you can be sure of victory. Don't stop praying!  God is never too late! You will be delivered.

wacky and interesting holidays

World Press Freedom Day

Date When Celebrated: Always on May 3
World Press Freedom Day recognizes the value of freedom of expression, and the sacrifices journalist have made to attain this freedom. It was created, and is sponsored, by the United Nations. While we enjoy this freedom in the United States, freedom of the press, and freedom of expression, is not a given right in many countries.
Each year, UNESCO awards the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize to someone who has made a major contribution towards journalistic freedom.
World Press Freedom Day activities include UN sponsored conferences and seminars on this issue. Teachers are encouraged to create lesson plans. As individuals, we can learn more about the issues. And, we can support efforts to further freedom of the press.

 http://www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/May/worldpressfreedomday.htm

I find world press holiday more interesting than lumpy rug day. Which is celebrated on same day.
