Wacky Holidays: Paul Bunyan
Paul Bunyan Day
Date When Celebrated : Always June 28
Paul Bunyan Day is a giant of a day. Paul Bunyan was a gigantic lumberjack of American Folklore. According out folklore, Paul Bunyan and his blue ox "Babe" lived and travelled around country. He is best known for his logging feats.
Paul Bunyan is "credited" with many deeds. Among his more legendary feats:
- He created logging in the U.S.
- He scooped out the great lakes to water Babe, his ox.
- He cleared the entire states of North and South Dakota for farming.
- He trained ants to do logging work. They were, of course, Carpenter Ants.
- Babe's large footprints created Minnesota's 10,000 lakes.
Celebrate Paul Bunyan Day in a giant way. Learn more about Paul and his tales. Spread the tales around. They are best told by word of mouth around a campfire.
Note: The correct spelling of his name is "Paul Bunyan" . Some references have him spelled as Paul Bunyon".
The Origin of Paul Bunyan Day:
French Canadians were believed to have originated Paul Bunyan during the Papineau rebellion of 1837. While he may have been created in Canada, Paul Bunyan quickly became a huge American legend. Many of the tales of Paul Bunyan originated in lumberjack industry and logging communities. Like all good folklore, it was passed from generation to generation by word of mouth. Over campfires, his legend grew, and tales were created. Written tales emerged in the early 1900's.
We are not certain why Paul Bunyan Day is celebrated on June 28.

friends are forever
Its always so much easier to say hello. When we moved back to the Midwest , Kenzie was a preschooler. We were very close and she learned how to count off bedtimes before she would see us again. All would be exciting when we returned. When kenzie knew when we would be leaving again, she would mope and cry even if it was still days away. We learned not to say when we would be leaving just so we could enjoy right up to last 24 hours,
Good byes are not easy, not matter if going out of town or our mansion the Savior has prepared for us. Where there won't be good bye, no tears. Only hellos, glad you made it.
I love the family of God . We can spend eternity together praising our Savior.

Cats in the cradle
This song has always spoken to me. We tend to think, nothing will change. No matter what stage of life we are in. But guess what? Change happens 24/7. someday you can look around and see some things differently. Like, we could have let some stuff go by the wayside... to spend more time with our kids. We can't spend too much quality time with them. They learn from us. they learn to love, they learn about God thru us. They learn about making choices and about making time. And they can also grow up to be exactly like us. If we can be an example of Jesus and his love and forgiveness. They will learn how to love and forgive others.
This song goes back to the 50'sand 60's but it still has a age old lesson. Make time for what matters.

Camp Meeting Preparation
Preparation
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and
receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be
also.
Every Year, We go to our annual Camp meeting in Portland. I have gained a
reputation for preparing our suitcases several weeks ahead. My husband gets
frustrated when it gets down to the last week or two before we go He can’t find
items that are usually in the bathroom or closet. Why do I do this? I am so
excited to go. All my thoughts, everything I do is focused on being prepared. I
can hardly think of anything else. I am so excited about going. Everywhere, I
have lists , so I don’t forget one thing.
I am excited about being ready for my Saviour. He has prepared a place for
me. I know that it will be well planned. It will be more than I can imagine. I
want to prepare to be ready when He calls me.
To prepare is to make ready: to make something ready for use or action, or
for a particular event or purpose. I want to prepare myself to be watching and
waiting for His soon return. I know when camp meeting will be and I know when I
will be leaving. Knowing this makes it easy for me.
In Mat 25:13 tells us Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour
wherein the Son of man cometh.
I don’t know the day or hour when Jesus will return. I need to make sure
first that my preparations are made ahead of time. I want to know my sins have
been forgiven. I need to be walking daily with the Lord .
I am excited to be going to camp. I am more excited about going to Heaven.
I want to be well-prepared!

Wacky Holidays: Selfie Day
National Selfie Day
Date When Celebrated : Always June 21
Today is National Selfie Day. It's a cinch to participate in this holiday. And, it's fun! Simply take your smartphone out of your pocket or purse, and take a selfie. Better yet, get a couple friends, and take a selfie with them. Make sure to put on as big smile. And, don't forget to post it on facebook.
Selfies are extremely popular. Millions of them are taken each and every day. It kind of makes you wonder why we need a special day to encourage us to take a selfie.
Most people believe selfies originated when smartphones came on the scene. Smartphones have built-in, hi pixel cameras, with a lens on both sides of the camera, making it easy to take a selfie. In actuality, selfies were around for a long, long time, they just weren't called "selfies". Back in the day of film based cameras, some cameras had a delay feature on the camera. You could set the camera up on a table or tripod, aim it, and press the delay button (usually ten seconds). Then, you had to run to where the camera was aimed and pose. They were not called selfies. Although, some people referred to them as "self-portraits".
Thought for the Day? If a picture you take of yourself is called a "selfie", shouldn't a picture you take of you and a group of friends be called a "groupie"?
The Origin of National Selfie Day:
Our research did not find the creator of this special day. This day was originated sometime after the arrival of smartphones with built-in cameras with the capability to take hand-held selfies. At,most this holiday has been around since the early 2000's.

Grand daughter Jordyn
Today's post is brought to you by George...
ENJOY!!
I LOVE CHOCOLATE! (AND HOT CHEETOS!)
SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT I AM CRAZY TO LOVE CHOCOLATE AND HOT CHEETOS. SOME PEOPLE LIKE JUST CHOCOLATE, AND SOME PEOPLE LIKE JUST HOT CHEETOS. I DON'T KNOW WHY I LOVE BOTH OF THEM, BUT I DO.
AS I AM WRITING THIS, I HAVE TWO SMALL SYMPHONY BARS BY MY SIDE. THEY ARE MADE OF "CREAMY MILK CHOCOLATE, ALMONDS & TOFFEE CHIPS", THIS QUOTE IS TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE WRAPPER.
I REALLY LOVE HOT CHEETOS. NOT JUST HOT CHEETOS, BUT REALLY, ANYTHING SPICY. I WILL SERIOUSLY ADD CAYENNE PEPPER TO MY MAC 'N' CHEESE! THAT IS HOW MUCH I LOVE IT.
I ALSO LIKE HOT CHOCOLATE. HOWEVER, IT HAS TO BE MADE A VERY SPECIFIC WAY. I WILL PUT NOT ONE, BUT TWO PACKAGES OF HOT COCOA MIX IN MY MUG. (MY MUG IS HUGE, SO IF I DO NOT MAKE IT THIS WAY, IT TASTE' VERY WATERED DOWN. )
I ALSO LIKE PANCAKES. I AM NOT SURE WHY I ADDED THAT. MAYBE I SHOULD NAME THIS POST FOOD INSTEAD OF CHOCOLATE AND HOT CHEETOS. YOU KNOW WHAT? THAT IS WHAT I WILL DO.
FOOD!
(IN TALK-SHOW VOICE): HELLO, AND WELCOME BACK TO FOOD! THE SHOW WHERE WE TALK ABOUT NOTHING BUT FOOD, FOOD, FOOD. TO MY RIGHT IS MY VERY HELPFUL SYMPHONY BAR, WHO WILL BE EXPLAINING THE ADVANTAGE OF EATING CHOCOLATE WITH EVERY MEAL! WE WILL BE RIGHT BACK AFTER THIS AD.
WOULDN'T THAT BE HILARIOUS? I AM NOW SERIOUSLY THINKING OF STARTING A TALK SHOW ABOUT FOOD! NOPE, DUMP THAT IDEA, I GET STAGE FRIGHT! OH WELL. IT WAS A NICE IDEA.
SO, BACK TO THE TOPIC OF CHOCOLATE AND HOT CHEETOS. WHERE DID WE LEAVE OFF? OH RIGHT, HOT CHOCOLATE. WELL, AS I WAS SAYING, I CANNOT DRINK MY COCOA UNLESS IT IS HOT. IT MUST BE AS CLOSE TO BOILING AS IT CAN GET.
WELL, I AM TIRED OF TALKING ALL ABOUT THAT. I WILL NOW LEAVE YOU, SO THAT I CAN EAT MY CHOCOLATE. GOODBYE!
-GEORGE

Thankful Thursday: Sletmoe/Jordan Funeral Crew
There have been 7 funeral in our church in the first year of moving back. My Husband said, its time for a wedding or a new baby. Tomorrow, we will be going to a wedding shower for Lisa and Micah.
But I got derailed here. Today Is thankful Thursday. I am so thankful for the family of God. We had different crews helping with 5 funeral dinners. I really appreciated my daughter and grand daughters with our last one. They had helped crews with others . This time they were the crew. They did such a good job and knew just what I needed to have done and was a big help to great grandma as she was coordinating all of the memorial for uncle George.
Here is some pictures of my beautiful helpers:

Flag Day
Flag Day
Date When Celebrated : Always June 14 th
Flag Day, is a day for all Americans to celebrate and show respect for our flag, its designers and makers. Our flag is representative of our independence and our unity as a nation.....one nation, under God, indivisible. Our flag has a proud and glorious history. It was at the lead of every battle fought by Americans. Many people have died protecting it. It even stands proudly on the surface of the moon.
As Americans, we have every right to be proud of our culture, our nation, and our flag. So raise the flag today and every day with pride!
Properly Display Our Flag
Care and handling of the American flag is steeped in tradition and respect. There is a right way and a wrong way to display the flag. This is called Flag Etiquette. The American flag should be held in the highest of regards. It represents our nation and the many people who gave their lives for our country and our flag. Here are the basics on displaying the American flag:
- The flag is normally flown from sunrise to sunset.
- In the morning, raise the flag briskly. At sunset, lower it slowly. Always, raise and lower it ceremoniously.
- The flag should not be flown at night without a light on it.
- The flag should not be flown in the rain or inclement weather.
- After a tragedy or death, the flag is flown at half staff for 30 days. It's called "half staff" on land ,and "half mast" on a ship.
- When flown vertically on a pole, the stars and blue field , or "union", is at the top and at the end of the pole (away from your house).
- The American flag is always flown at the top of the pole. Your state flag and other flags fly below it.
- The union is always on top. When displayed in print, the stars and blue field are always on the left.
- Never let your flag touch the ground, never...period.
- Fold your flag when storing. Don't just stuff it in a drawer or box.
- When your flag is old and has seen better days, it is time to retire it. Old flags should be burned or buried. Please do not throw it in the trash.
Did you Know? There is a very special ceremony for retiring the flag by burning it. It is a ceremony everyone should see.Your local Boy Scout group knows the proper ceremony and performs it on a regular basis. If you have an old flag, give it to them. And, attend the ceremony.

!
I was going through one of my old journels and I found an entry that I wanted to share:
"When I grow up I want to be a foster mom just like my mommy.
She is the best mom ever, she always has patience and has enough love for every one...
She never yells at me...
(Except if I get the kids wound up and she is tired!)
She always knows how to make me smile, even when I've made up my mind to be mad at her!"

Graduation of my First and oldest Grandson Nate
Its hard to believe I am old enough to have a grandchild graduating from high school. Where has time gone? I am not sure. Love my boy and pray daily for him and all my grandchildren. After all that is what my grandma did for me. I am serving the Lord today because of grandma's prayers.

Thankful Thursday: Friens, Food and good Weather
Back when we lived in the Midwest, food titles were different. If you said you were having barbecue, you got what some of us on West coast called sloppy Joes. If you said you were gonna have a grill out. This meant that you were going barbecue hamburgers outside on the barbecue thus grilling them.
So last week we had Heidi's family and some friends over for a barbecue, not sloppy Joes.
Beautiful weather. Good food and fun with friens. The boys enjoyed digging were a pool use to be.
Hope you enjoy the pictures

Wacky But In This Case A Good Holiday
National Chocolate Ice Cream Day
Date When Celebrated : Always June 7
National Chocolate Ice Cream Day is a great day to eat America's favorite flavor of ice cream.
National Chocolate Ice Cream Day is a field day for ice cream makers. However, we probably don't need any additional incentive to eat Chocolate Ice Cream. And, with the arrival of warm, summer weather, cooling off with a little (or a lot) of chocolate ice cream is a natural.
Celebrate National Chocolate Ice Cream Day by enjoying it a few times today. It's as simple as that. Just make sure to eat it quickly before it melts in the summer heat.
The Origin of Chocolate Ice Cream Day:
Our research did not find the creator, or the origin of this day. Our money is on the ice cream makers as originators of this day.
